Abu Dhabi City Tour

This magnificent hotel is over 1 km from end to end. It has 300 luxury rooms, 92 suites and a beach that has sand imported from Algeria (because the natural sand wasn't soft enough).

On Saturday as part of our orientation we were taken on a city bus tour.  This unfortunately coincided with the first day of the Muslim holiday of Ramadan.  Ramadan lasts about one month during which practicing Muslims fast (no food, drink, or smoking) from sunrise to sundown, every day, in the middle of summer!  Though us non-Muslims were not fasting, it is also law in the UAE that no one eat, drink, or smoke in public during Ramadan from sunrise to sundown. That meant that from 9 am to about 2:30 pm we had to ride a bus, hop on and off every 20 minutes to stand in the scorching sun to see the sites of Abu Dhabi.  Needless to say it was an exhausting affair.

We did, however, get to see some great sites, and get a better feel for the city itself.
